FAQ

Common questions from our customers

Is this safe for dogs and pets?

Yes - Ice Defender is pet-safe. It won’t burn paws, stain fur, or cause skin irritation. Unlike rock salt, there’s no sharp residue or chemical burn risk. Just peace of mind for your four-legged family.

Will this damage my driveway?

No - Ice Defender is actually safer for concrete than rock salt. Because it’s a liquid, it doesn’t leave behind corrosive salt crystals that chip away at your driveway or sidewalks.

How much do I need for one snowfall?

On average, 1 gallon covers up to 1,000 sq ft. A standard 2-car driveway is about 600–800 sq ft, so 1 gallon per snowfall should be enough. You can also use our [Brine Calculator] for a more exact answer.

How long does it last once applied?

Ice Defender stays effective for up to 48 hours before snowfall. It prevents ice from bonding to the pavement so snow is easier to shovel or melts faster after a storm.

Will melted snow refreeze?

In most cases, no. When used as directed, Ice Defender lowers the freezing point of water and continues working after application. However, in extreme cold (below -15°F), additional applications may help maintain performance.

Can you apply Ice Defender too early?

Ice Defender can be applied up to two weeks before winter weather as long as it doesn't rain.
